A drain field fails a little at a time. Drains slow down, a toilet gurgles, and the ground over the field turns soft and wet. Homeowners asking about drain field repair are often quoted a replacement: new trenches and new lines cut across the yard. Everclear starts somewhere else, inside the septic tank you already own.
The work starts with a look inside the tank and at the field. That evaluation is free, and it tells us whether biological restoration fits your system. If it does, we install an aeration and bacteria unit inside the tank through its access opening. Most installs are finished in a day.

A drain field, also called a leach field or drainfield, is perforated pipe set in gravel trenches. Liquid effluent leaves the septic tank and soaks into the soil around those lines. Over time a dark, slimy layer called the biomat builds on that soil, and a thin one is normal.
Failure starts when the biomat gets too thick. The EPA notes that biomat thickens as a field ages. Past about 25 to 30 years, it can grow dense enough to block the soil. Solids escaping the tank and heavy water use speed that up.
Piedmont ground around Statesville and the lakes is heavy red clay, which drains slowly on its own. Above the field you see soggy ground, gurgling drains, a sewage smell, or bright green grass in dry weather. NC State Extension notes that once the soil pores seal, pumping the tank buys only a few days.
Restoration works from inside the tank. We install a compact aeration and bacteria unit through the tank's access opening. A small, quiet air pump sits outside and pushes air through a fine-bubble diffuser in the unit.
The unit carries growth media colonized by natural aerobic bacteria. With steady oxygen, those bacteria digest the organic solids in the tank. Treated effluent then carries them into the drain field, where they feed on the biomat. As the biomat breaks down, the soil takes water again.
The field itself is left alone. The only trench is a shallow line from the pump to the tank, located through NC 811 first. Change comes gradually, at a pace set by the soil and the age of the system. The first year includes three service visits, and after that the system moves to a regular service schedule.
Biological restoration fits many failing fields, but not every one. Crushed or collapsed lines will not carry water, however clean the soil gets. A field buried under a driveway is out of reach. So is a tank that has failed structurally, or a field sitting in groundwater.
The inspection settles it, and we tell you either way. Restoration is one piece of septic system repair in Statesville, and your system may need a different one. When a tank needs pumping, or the field needs replacing, we refer you out. Everclear does not pump tanks, install new systems or replace drain lines.
Replacement means a permit and a new field cut into the lawn. Two other fixes get sold: cracking the soil open with air, or a chemical drain field cleaner. The EPA advises against additives made of organic solvents or strong alkali chemicals, which threaten soil structure and groundwater. Air and bacteria working inside the tank on a service schedule is a different approach.

We open the tank and check levels, scum and sludge, the baffles and the outlet. Then we look at the drain field for wet spots and odor.
We tell you whether biological restoration fits, and whether the tank needs riser access or an effluent filter. If it will not work, we say so and point you to the right contractor.
We call NC 811 to locate utilities before anything is dug. The unit goes in through the tank access opening. The air line is trenched and the pump is set outside.
We come back about 30 days after the install to check the unit and the pump. After that the system stays on a set service schedule.
